Javon

“Welcome to the Watercress Lodge.”

“Thanks.” I handed my keys off, gave my name for my baggage and headed up the stairs.

“This is nice,” I said as I was greeted by a lovely young lady at the door. She welcomed me as I took my glass of champagne and came on inside. I am usually a beer guy but I couldn’t complain with this choice of beverage.

I could see why Mike and Alexandra had chosen this venue to get married. It was incredible. After she said yes to his proposal, the only thing Mike wanted for their wedding was a week of festivities and fun. He wanted both of their families to have time to bond and enjoy their wedding as much as they would.

They had remembered the lodge from trips they had made as a couple and loved it. It was intimate but could accommodate the 100+ family members and friends they had invited.

I was so busy searching around for Mike that I bumped right into someone.

“Oh, I’m sorry,” I apologized as I looked down to see a lovely woman standing there.

“It’s Ok.” she said nonchalantly before she got a better glimpse at me. Then she totally changed her tune and became all flirty. “It is a little crowded in here.”

“Yes it is.”

“Are you here on the bride or grooms side?” she asked.

“The groom. I am the best man.”

“Oh well I am in the wedding party as well. Maybe we will get to know each other better. My name is Meelah.”

“Yeah maybe. Meelah, is it? I am sure I will see you later.” I whisked off before she could say anything else. Not saying she wasn’t a beautiful woman but I knew someone else was going to be here that I definitely wanted to see.

I still hadn’t found Mike in the crowd but I noticed Mike’s father Michael Sr. and walked over to him.

“Pop!”

Michael Taylor Sr. turned and once he saw it was me had the biggest smile on his face.

“Hey son, you finally made it.” He grabbed me up for a big hug.

“Yeah. I was running a little late leaving Atlanta but I’m here.”

“Is that Javon?”

“Yes mom, it’s me.”

Theresa Wilson grabbed onto me like she hadn’t seen me in years. I knew she missed me and I missed them too. My family had grown up next to Mike’s family ever since we were ten years old.

I knew my parents would have loved to see Mike getting married but I lost them at the age of 17 when they died in a head on car accident. I ended up moving in with Mike and his family for my senior year. So they were more like parents to me and Mike was definitely my brother.

“Where is Mike at?”

“He is over there by the registration desk,” Mom pointed out once she let me go.

I gave her a kiss on her forehead. “I will check in with him and I will talk to you two in a bit.”

As I got closer to Mike, my heart started to quicken.
